Monday's Lower Body Workout

July 19, 2008 / by fitmommas

The weekend just started and I'm already worrying about Monday's workout - yikes!

Yesterday I went to Bear Lake with a group of friends. We had a great time, playing in the sand and water, eating the famous ice cream shakes (how can you not love a place that's famous for ice cream!). My sister-in-law said to my oldest, "You're so lucky to be doing so many fun things this summer with your mom." Denver said, "Oh, Mom just drives us there then talks to her friends while we play." Ouch. Guess I'd better stop gabbing and start chasing him around the jungle gym more!

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. It was nuts. I hope some of you had a fun cardio workout this morning. My neighbor, Jared, took Leslie and I on a trail run up Green Canyon. It was pretty and torturous. Jared is amazing - he's done two ultra-marathons (50 and a 30) this year and this fall he's doing back to back marathons. I don't know what insanity made me think I could keep up with him. As he flew up trails and I panted so loudly for oxygen the wildlife was scared, I kept thinking - I'm an idiot. I'm an idiot! Luckily, the trail eventually ended and I didn't pass out. Now I'm sitting here thinking how great it was and wondering when we can go again! I am an idiot.

Here's Monday's workout for you -

We're going to do it on time today with cardio sandwiched between the weights.

Warm-up - 5-10 minutes

Plie - 1 minute

Step-up - 1 minute

Cardio - 3 minutes

Walking lunges - 1-2 minutes

Dead lift - 1 minute

Cardio - 3 minutes

Step and squat - 2 minutes

Hamstring curls - 1 minute

Cardio - 3 minutes

Side lunge - 1-2 minutes

Calf raises - 1 minute

Cardio - 3 minutes

Narrow squat - 1 minute

Wide squat - 1 minute

Cardio - 3 minutes

Cool-down and stretch

Please remember to take this at your own pace. You can do thirty seconds instead of a minute or drop some of the exercises if you need. Also make sure you go slow and control the eccentric phase - the movement as you're coming up out of the lunges and squats.

For exercise descriptions go to my website - www.camichecketts.com - it's on the links page under Cami's Strength Training Guide.

Have a great weekend - Cami

You're not an idiot...not at all!  Just that while you are torturing yourself on that path, keep an ice cream delight in your mind (and really see it) and pretend you are trying to reach it.  (Yeah, if you complete the run you can go get some ice cream....oh, but NOT the size of whatever you had pictured in your brain!)

    I love that idea!

The size of my ice cream bowls has often been a source of humor for my friends. I've now forced myself to buy only one half-gallon a week and when it's gone I can't have anymore until the next week. How pathetic is that?

Not pathetic at all!  Not when you're talking to me about ice cream!  I'm the one that's really out of shape, really has to lose weight, and I know all this...but if you put ice cream in front of me, who can even think or care about anything else!  It has nothing to do with willpower, either...or lack of willpower.  My willpower works just fine and I can prove it in just about any case or test.  Ice cream is a whole different world and state of mind.  Willpower doesn't even exist in that world!

Isn't that the truth? I can always justify that ice cream is a dairy product and you should get your calcium in!
